Welcome to device world

If you thought Samsung would not exceed the 5.5-inch barrier of the Galaxy Note 2, think again. Last week, they unveiled two new Mega phones that go by the name Samsung Galaxy Mega(pun intended). The two phones have low to mid-range specs with 5.8-inch and 6.3-inch screens respectively.

Galaxy Mega Design

The larger phone has a 720p display and a 1.7GHz dual-core processor. The phone comes equipped with LTE alongside the other standard connectivity features. Samsung has filled this phone with software features like Pop-up Play, Air View and MultiWindow to take advantage of the ginormous screen. The smaller phone has a qHD(960×540) display and a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor. Both the phones have an IR-blaster for controlling your television, 1.5GB of RAM and a microSD slot. Like I said they both have standard wireless like 802.11n (or ‘ac’ in the 6.3″ one) WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. The batteries are massive starting at 2600mAh and 3200mAh for the bigger one. The best thing here has to be the presence of the latest Android 4.2.2 JellyBean.

They both have 8-megapixel cameras which can record 1080p videos at 30 fps. There’s some good front facing cameras, both 1.9-megapixel and they can record 720p video.

Galaxy Mega PPIs

The pixel density of the smaller phone is 190 ppi, which is even less the the original Galaxy S. This phone is aimed mostly at the budget and developing country market, so alot of the people who buy it either won’t notice or won’t even care about the pixel density. In some of the markets where this phone will be sold the consumers would be taken in awe of the sheer size of the display and wont even understand numbers like pixel density or why screen is not very clear. That is one reason this phone won’t be sold in the UK.

Galaxy Mega Colors

The pricing of the Galaxy Mega phones have not been revealed yet, but expect it to be significantly less than Samsung’s flagships. The phone will be unveiled first in Europe before gradually expanding to other countries. It’ll definitely go for a price that should be very easy on your wallet. Big phablet and small price.
